Position: Music Director
Job Description: Diablo Choral Artists (DCA) is seeking an energetic, innovative Music Director who will build on our tradition of musical excellence, grow our membership of experienced amateur singers, enhance our repertoire, expand our audience, and assist in developing a firm financial foundation for the choir’s future. The Music Director provides overall artistic direction for DCA concerts and other activities consistent with DCA’s Mission and Vision Statements and in collaboration with the Board of Directors.  
Overall Duties include:
  • Plan in a timely manner and obtain Board approval of the programming of annual concert seasons, with a range of repertoire that will be interesting and challenging for singers, and enjoyable and exciting for audiences,
  • Serve as ex officio member of Board of Directors and attend monthly meetings of the Board,
  • Prepare estimated budgets for concert seasons in terms of costs for instrumentalists and soloists, if necessary,
  • Conduct weekly choir rehearsals and at least one Saturday retreat rehearsal in the fall and in the spring in preparation for concerts,
  • Collaborate productively with DCA accompanist to provide a positive rehearsal environment and an efficient, effective rehearsal,
  • Encourage singer participation and preparation to achieve high performance standards, including by locating (or creating) appropriate practice aids by part,
  • Conduct all performances of DCA, including any given on special occasions,
  • Participate in local media outreach to recruit singers and promote concerts,
  • Assist in preparation of programs, flyers, and other advertising for concerts, including writing program notes as required for each concert,
  • Audition singers for membership in DCA and make determinations of the eligibility of each applicant,
  • Provide ongoing instruction in vocal production and choral techniques to the chorus with the goal of improving the artistic quality of the choir,
  • When necessary, audition, hire, and prepare instrumentalists, professional soloists, and non-member singers, and provide for fee negotiation with the Board of Directors,
  • Assist the Board in developing new streams of revenue, finding new venues for performances, and developing new collaborations with other choirs and musical organizations in Contra Costa County and nearby locations,
  • Perform any other duties that may be agreed upon between the Board and the Music Director
Applicant Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Professional experience as a choral director,
  • Appropriate music degree or equivalent professional experience,
  • Organizational and planning skills,
  • Ability to work productively with singers of different levels of musical experience,
  • Good people skills, including ability to establish rapport with choir members and audiences,
  • Extensive knowledge of choral literature and experience conducting both traditional masterpieces and contemporary choral repertoire, including music of historically underrepresented composers and styles,
NOTE: Technical ability and experience with live streaming concerts and virtual rehearsals is a plus

Sacramento Valley Concert Choir

Position: Artistic Director
Job Description: Sacramento Valley Concert Choir (SVCC) is seeking a new Musical and Artistic Director. SVCC is a non-audition, volunteer community SATB choral association with approximately 50 singers. The choir’s mission is to provide musical entertainment as a service to retirement communities, assisted living facilities, organizations, and to the general public.  Rehearsals: The choir rehearses two seasons per year: September through mid-December, and January through mid-May. Rehearsals take place on Tuesday nights at 6:00pm or 7:00pm–9:00pm at Arden Christian Church, 4300 Las Cruces Way, Sacramento, CA 95864.  Concerts: Each season concludes with five to six concerts (in December and May). One to three of them are public concerts and the others are at retirement homes in the area.  
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serves as the musical coordinator and conductor for the chorus.
  • Creates, and prepares choir for two seasonal programs per year.
  • Plans and directs weekly 2-hour full-choir rehearsals, plus 1-hour sectional rehearsals as needed.
  • Creates a song practice schedule.
  • Sends weekly email updates to choir members.
  • Collaborates with the choir Board, the piano accompanist, and music committee. 
Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated technical and artistic musical ability.
  • Strength in time management, teaching, rehearsal, and performance.
  • Written and verbal interpersonal communication skills, including basic computer proficiency.
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to create an environment that encourages self-improvement and participation.
  • Enthusiasm, patience, a sense of humor, and enjoyment of working with singers.

Reconciliation Singers Voices of Peace

Position: Artistic Director
Job Description: Reconciliation Singers Voices of Peace (RSVP), based in the Sacramento CA area, is seeking an Artistic Director. Founded 23 years ago, this select, auditioned group of 18-22 singers presents two concert sets per year, partnering with local charities and programming repertoire that reflects that charity’s mission; from vocal jazz to classical choral literature to contemporary music, to gospel and folk tunes.
Applicant Requirements/Qualifications:
  1. BA or BM in music,
  2. Experience working with adult choirs or vocal ensembles,
  3. Experience working with volunteer singers, including many professional musicians,
  4. Experience in developing a cohesive, repertoire-based blended choral sound,
  5. Experience developing repertoire that includes all genres of choral/vocal music, especially vocal jazz,
  6. Strong interest in using music as a vehicle for both quality performances and community outreach/non-profit support,
  7. Public speaking experience,
  8. Solo and/or choral singing experience and knowledge of vocal mechanics, techniques and pedagogy  
Preferred Qualifications: 
  1. MA or MM in choral conducting,
  2. Experience working with charity organizations,
  3. Member, ACDA or similar choral conducting organization  
Responsibilities:
  1. Audition singers as needed; maintain quality singers for consistent, blended choral sound,
  2. Develop links with local musical organizations for concert collaborations,
  3. Set concert dates (2-4 performances per concert set) and venues (w/Event Coordinator),
  4. Choose music and concert concepts/themes for each concert year,
  5. Order music; utilize current music library (w/Assistant to AD),
  6. Prepare and distribute music to singers (w/Assistant to AD),
  7. Choose guest artists; hire guest musicians,
  8. Provide recordings of repertoire, whenever possible,
  9. Run weekly rehearsals (currently on Monday evenings, August-May),
  10. Participate in Board meetings (held once monthly in person or virtually),
  11. Book special performances, based on singer interest and fundraising needs,
  12. Help coordinate recording sessions; assist with editing recordings (w/Sound Technician)  
Expectations:
  • Personable: approachable by singers and audience,
  • Minimize conducting group during performances,
  • Rehearsals friendly but efficient,
  • Little note-bashing at rehearsals: singers will learn their notes on their own for the most part,
  • Respecting and enhancing RSVP’s mission to support local charities,
  • Enjoy the challenges of repertoire programming, including programming music from other countries,
  • Speaking to audiences: describing music choices/backgrounds, etc.,
  • Respect the musicianship and experiences of singers,
  • Minimum keyboard skills (play one part at a time),
  • Act as public representative of RSVP with media

Position: Artistic Director
Artistic Videos & Performances:
  • Design, coordinate, and direct innovative and compelling artistic programming that appeals to a wide range of audience members, singers, and donors to retain and expand the SGMC audience.
  • Serve as the principal conductor of SGMC rehearsals and performances.
  • Select repertoire for each concert, ensure music is ordered, coordinate completion of arrangements, orchestrations, practice tracks, and ensure compliance with all copyright laws.
  • Select and supervise artistic contract employees.

  • Passionate in supporting the LGBTQIA+ community.
  • Knowledge of current trends within the choral and musical/artistic community.
  • Commitment to working with and in diverse communities
  • Ability to provide strong leadership skills as well as balance work requirements within a team setting.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Description of Position Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's or Doctorate Degree in Music or equivalent competency.
  • Eight years of experience with choral conducting and programming.
  • Experience with music arrangement or composition.
  • Experience with staging musical productions.
  • Experience with non-profit budgets, financial and concert revenue planning.

Applicant Requirements / Qualifications:
  • Experience and proficiency in conducting, leading and teaching church choirs, and working with vocal soloists and instrumentalists. Should have a background in vocal training as well as music theory, history and pedagogy.
  • Ability to provide vocal leadership for choral and congregational singing preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Lutheran liturgy and settings, the liturgical calendar, as well as the Lutheran hymnody.
  • A commitment to grow in knowledge of music and liturgy for worship; membership in professional organizations; and personal study.
  • Ability to work effectively with church staff as well as choir members, soloists and instrumentalists. This includes communication and organizational skills as well as reliability and promptness.

Position: Education and Community Engagement Manager
Job Description: The full-time Education and Community Engagement Manager reports to GMCLA’s Executive Director & Producer (E.D.P.) and works closely with GMCLA’s Music Director & Conductor (M.D.C.) and staff to develop and facilitate GMCLA’s education and community engagement programs that bring GMCLA’s music and message to schools and community partner organizations, contributing to GMCLA’s value and impact across greater Los Angeles. The organization’s current programs include Alive Music Project in high schools, Arts for Healing Justice Network and partnerships with the Los Angeles LGBT Center, community colleges, and the City of West Hollywood.  The successful candidate for this position will have a proven track record in community engagement and education programs as an administrator or music educator / conductor. Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in music education, choral conducting or vocal performance is preferred. A Liberal Arts or Arts Management Degree with music and/or conducting experience is also acceptable.
  • 3 years of experience in either arts administration, music education or community chorus leadership is required
  • Excellent project management and project development skills
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working in a nonprofit environment preferred
Computer Skills:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Proficiency in web-based research tools  
Special Requirements: 
  • Position is on-site (West Hollywood, CA) with flexibility to accommodate offsite activities
  • Local travel, in and around the Los Angeles region, is required for this position. Candidates must have a vehicle and valid driver’s license. Local travel will be around 15-20% of the time.
  • Candidates must have a flexible schedule, which will require working some evenings, nights, and weekends to attend community events, Chorus performances, rehearsals, etc.
  • Candidates must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by date of hire to be considered​
