Collaborative Pianists - Piedmont East Bay Children's Choir

The award-winning Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir (PEBCC) seeks two collaborative pianists on Tuesday afternoons (4 - 6:30 PM) for its Girls Training 2 and Girls Training 4 choirs during the 2023-24 season. The ideal candidate is an experienced collaborative pianist who is comfortable working with young people and supporting their musical growth.   JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  Availability from 4:00 – 6:30 PM on Tuesdays   ● Serve as regular rehearsal pianist for Girls Training 2 and Girls Training 4 (Tuesdays from 4:15 – 6:15 PM) during the choir’s two 17-week semesters. ● Provide assistance with warm-ups, sectionals, basic music theory, or general classroom supervision as needed. ● Participate in additional activities (e.g., workshops, recitals, and all-choir concerts) for additional compensation.  ● Complete timecards and other administrative paperwork in a timely fashion. ● Supervision of singers and supporting check ins and attendance from 4:00-4:15 and 6:15-6:30.   NEEDED QUALIFICATIONS:  ● Excellent skills in piano performance and score reading.  ● Familiarity with choral rehearsals and ability to assist conductor (e.g., playing parts, accompanying warmups, etc).  ● Experience working with children from diverse communities and supporting musical growth and interpersonal skills development. ● Reliable transportation to and from rehearsal sites. ● Negative TB test, and PEBCC livescan; fully vaccinated against COVID-19.   PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  ● Familiarity with Kodaly, Orff, and/or other music education methodologies. ● 3 years of similar instruction within a school or community setting.  REPORTS TO: Artistic Director.  HOURS:  Part-time, with occasional weekend or evening recitals, workshops, or rehearsals. This is a non-exempt, hourly position.  PAY RANGE:  $55-65/hour, depending on experience. Training Department Conductors  POSITION OVERVIEW:  The award-winning Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir (PEBCC) seeks experienced choral conductors and music educators to join our team. We seek one permanent conductor and multiple long-term and occasional substitute instructors to work with our Kinder and Training choirs, ages 5-10.  The ideal candidates bring a passion for working with young voices at a high level of music-making, and engaging with a joyfully diverse student body.   JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  ● Serve as regular conductor for Girls Training 2 (Tuesdays from 4:00 – 6:30 PM) during the choir’s two 17-week semesters. Design teaching curriculum and select repertoire for the choir within PEBCC’s progressive Kodály-based instructional framework.  ● Serve as long-term substitute for KinderChoir A, B, and C and Training 1A  (Tuesdays from 2:45 – 6:00 PM; Wednesdays from 2:45 – 5:00 PM) from August  – November 2023. Coordinate with current instructor on curriculum, games, and repertoire.  ● Plan, lead, and support rehearsals involving vocal technique, games, musicianship development, with moveable do, repertoire, performance practice, and stage presence.  ● Communicate PEBCC’s philosophy and community spirit effectively to singers and families, and instill high levels of commitment to the program.  ● Participate in additional activities (e.g., workshops, retreats, tours, and guest performances) for additional compensation.  ● Complete time cards, trainings, and other administrative paperwork in a timely fashion.  ● Participate fully in staff development and support PEBCC's youth development goals.  NEEDED QUALIFICATIONS:      Bachelor’s degree in music education, choral conducting, or music performance, or the equivalent.      ● Strong knowledge of vocal production and choral technique.      ● Exemplary musicianship and teaching skills.      ● Strong keyboard and score-reading skills.      ● Minimum of three years of experience teaching choral music to children and youth.      ● Familiarity with Kodaly, Orff, and/or other music education methodologies.      ● Excellent written and oral communication skills.      ● Collaborative working style and attention to detail.      ● Passion for supporting young singers in the choral arts.      ● Reliable transportation to and from rehearsal sites.      ● Negative TB test, and PEBCC Livescan; fully vaccinated against COVID-19.  PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  ● Master’s degree in music education, choral conducting, or music performance, or equivalent experience  ● Kodály certification preferred  ● Training or familiarity with best practices in youth development  ● Spanish, Mandarin language competencies highly sought  REPORTS TO: Artistic Director.  HOURS: Part-time, to be determined.
