For many years one of the most frustrating aspects of being a community college choral conductor has been trying to navigate the issue of ensemble and applied lesson course repeatability. While some schools have found creative ways around this issue, others struggle to address it. The CCDA 2-Year College R & R Team has convened a panel of experts to discuss strategies and help other community college choral colleagues successfully work through this issue. They will offer advice, support as well as alternative approaches The Panel:
Lou De La Rosa, West Valley College Nicola Dedmon, Fullerton College Dr. Christopher Peterson, CSU Fullerton Dr. Arian Khaefi, San Diego State University Dr. Karen Miskel, Victor Valley College Dr. Arlie Langager, Mira Costa College Dr. Angel Vazquez-Ramos, CSU Bakersfield Dr. Kellori Dower, Cypress College, moderator, CCDA 2-Year College R & R Chair

During distance learning and Zoom teaching, I collected a lot of resources to share with my students. Even as we are back to face to face learning, I have found many of the resources are still useful. Maybe you will, too! Submission by: Zanaida Robles
The CCDA/George Heussenstamm Choral Composition Competition at ECCO now moves into its seventh year! Last year’s winners were Matthew Lyon Hazzard with The Prow and Kate Crellin with Home Thoughts From Abroad. We now add their names to the growing list of wonderfully talented previous winners including Greg Lapp, Townsend Losey, Mark Growden, Jasper Randall and Nancy Reeves. Winning composers are invited to attend ECCO for FREE! Could you be next? Find that piece that you have been developing, or start fresh, and get ready to submit your composition with the chance to have it distributed to and read by choral directors from all around the state. Please visit www.GeorgeHeussenstamm.com to learn more about our talented and generous benefactor. From: Joshua Palkki, LGBTQ Perspectives
It is my honor to be serving a second term as LGBTQ Perspectives Repertoire & Resources chair for CCDA. Making sure that queer students feel safe and supported in choral spaces is the driving force of my research, scholarship, and advocacy. |
