Vision for the Future
Development Fund

​​In the summer of 2015, during the presidency of Lori Marie Rios, the California Choral Directors Association created its Vision for the Future Scholarship Fund. The fund was initially established to provide financial support to CCDA members for professional development activities. Ms. Rios’s passionate advocacy for lifelong learning was quickly embraced by the CCDA board, and the Vision for the Future Scholarship Fund was established.

During the first few years, CCDA offered only one annual scholarship: the Dr. Charles C. Hirt Scholarship for Professional Development. But with the prompt support and great generosity of our members, the VFTF Scholarship Fund grew quickly and soon CCDA started offering other scholarships and grants: the Creativity Grant, the Choral Equity Scholarship, and up to 3 full scholarships to CCDA’s Summer Conference at ECCO. In 2023, CCDA received a generous donation from David Masone to establish another scholarship, this one to honor and celebrate the memory of his late husband, Dr. William Hall. And the Dr. William Hall ECCO Scholarship was created—a full scholarship for choral directors attending the summer conference for the first time. All these scholarships and grants are currently offered annually. And except for previous recipients and members currently serving in the CCDA leadership, any active CCDA member in good standing is eligible to apply for the VFTF scholarships and grants. Applications are reviewed annually by an appointed committee of California choral directors.

Since 2015, the success and growth of the VFTF Scholarship Fund has inspired the CCDA leadership to think more strategically about fundraising and development. And so, in 2023, the CCDA board decided to expand the Vision for the Future Scholarship Fund into the new Vision for the Future Development Fund, which now also includes fundraising initiatives to provide scholarships for Regional and All-State Honor Choirs and to support all other CCDA events, special projects, and general activities.

Please consider making a donation to the Vision for the Future Development Fund and help the California Choral Directors Association continue to pursue its mission to empower choral musicians to create transformative experiences for California’s diverse communities.
