Position Choir Director

Job Description
The Choir Director will support the mission and vision of FCC by directing the Sunday choir ministry in conjunction with the overall Sunday worship plan for the church. They will collaborate with the Worship Director for the overall direction, leadership development, recruitment, calendar, communication, resources, and systems needed for this ministry at FCC Oakland. While the choir takes an approximate 10-week break over the summer, the Choir Director may continue to work some weekly hours during this time.

Responsibilities and Duties
• Collaborate with the Worship Director to integrate the FCC Choir into the overall Sunday worship plan for the church.
• Direct the FCC Choir for Sunday Worship and special FCC musical events.
• Lead scheduled choir rehearsals (currently on Thursday evenings).
• Select appropriate and diverse choral repertoire music for Sunday worship (choral anthems, introits, benedictions, praise and worship music, etc.) in alignment with the overall church vision and in collaboration with the Worship Director and the worship planning team.
• Develop and execute a plan for recruitment and auditioning of potential choir members for the future of the ministry.
• Attend worship planning meetings with the Worship Director as needed.
• Meet periodically with the Worship Director and/or the Lead Pastor to review and assess the Choir’s ministry.
• Attend weekly staff meetings as scheduled.
• Participate in additional FCC events and ministries as needed.
• Attend retreats and training experiences designed for church staff.
• Participate in Sunday worship on dates scheduled with the choir.


Qualifications
• A profession of personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord
• Acceptance of the Job Description
• Commitment to the Mission, Vision, and Values of FCC Oakland
• Adherence to the FCC Leadership Covenant and Staff Code of Conduct
• Shall sign and acknowledge receipt of the FCC Employee Handbook and all FCC policies
• Supporting the ministry priorities of the Evangelical Covenant Church (
www.covchurch.org) and the Pacific Southwest Conference (www.pswc.org)

Education, Skills, and Experience
• Undergraduate Degree or postgraduate preferred.
• At least 3 years’ experience or equivalent leading or assistant leading in a mid-size church setting.
• Demonstrates cross-cultural proficiency
• Competence in, and willingness to learn, appropriate software or technology skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency in administrative tasks including organization, planning, delegating, working within a budget and communication.
• Relationship building/people skills.
• Self-motivation and initiation
• Ability to deliver results, facilitate and influence others and problem solve beyond temporary solutions.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
• English language proficiency in both spoken and written form
• Strong organizational skills
• Integrity, Flexibility, and Teamwork.
