The Consort Singers is the premiere choral ensemble at LMU. Comprised of the top singers at the university, the choir tours annually with recent past tours to France, England, Italy, Germany, and Austria. This ensemble has performed by invitation for regional conferences of the American Choral Directors Association and the National Association for Music Education. A major mission of the Consort Singers is to perform at the highest levels of artistic expression and discover ways to communicate and serve their audiences and surrounding communities.
SonoVoce (formerly Chamber Singers) is the the Sonoma State University Music Department’s select choral ensemble comprised primarily of music majors with some community members. Singers in SonoVoce perform choral works that represent numerous genres, styles, time periods, and cultures. Additionally, SonoVoce serves as the core ensemble for our Symphonic Chorus and, as such, annually performs large choral orchestral works with the Santa Rosa Symphony. With a population of about 8,000 students, Sonoma State University is one of the smaller CSU’s and is a proud COPLAC institution. Housed in the Green Music Center, the Music Department prides itself on its ability to deliver high quality, individualized instruction. Students also receive ample opportunities to connect with and learn from professional performing artists who perform in Weill and Schroeder Halls. Recognizing the ever-evolving music profession, the SSU Music Department offers a broad performance curriculum that encompasses numerous musical styles and genres.

Shelley Durbin and Jonathan Grantham will share their strategies for equipping students to raise their engagement and awareness levels in rehearsals, allowing students to become full partners in directing learning environments, activities, and achievements. Implementation of the strategies explained and explored will lead to student outcomes such as deep and sustained interest, the development and application of informed aesthetic judgments, and more efficient and enjoyable rehearsals on the parts of both teachers and students. Most importantly, successful use of these strategies will lead students to ask for more.

Clinicians: Shelly Durbin and Jonathan Grantham
